Controversial former MLB pitcher John Rocker referred to the sensitivity training process as "a farce" in an article published by the Chicago Tribune. Rocker had been ordered by commissioner Bud Selig to undergo sensitivity training in 2000 after making racist and homophobic remarks to Sports Illustrated. Rocker's comments came soon after White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen was ordered to undergo sensitivity training for defamatory remarks against Sun-Times reporter Jay Mariotti.
